Easter’s Flower-Filled Baskets

One of the most charming emblems of Easter is its baskets, which we here at Bagoy's Florist & Home are just as inclined to fill with flowers and plants as candy. This custom comes to us from ancient times when farmers carted their spring seedlings in baskets to be blessed. Later still, the big Easter meal was brought in the same way for the same purpose. It's only fair that the Easter Bunny would be hopping around with one, too. Read More about Easter’s Flower-Filled Baskets »

Surprising Secret Santa Gifts

We've all played Secret Santa (or some variation on the theme) before, whether at work, among a group of friends or at a holiday party. And whatever we call it - Yankee Swap, White Elephant, or, if you're in Latin America, "Amigo Secreto" - the group gift swap has one objective, to make sure that everyone gets a present. It's also tons of fun and an older practice than you may think. Its origins can be traced back to Scandinavia, where a Santa Claus-like figure would knock on doors and when they were answered, toss his present inside before he could be seen. Anonymity is still a key part of Secret Santa today. At Bagoy's Florist & Home, we can't help you with the staying anonymous part, but we can help with the gift part. Statement Centerpieces for Thanksgiving

November is one of our favorite times here at Bagoy's Florist & Home. As we usher in the holidays (and the season's rich, luxe blooms), there are so many occasions to design and deliver flowers for, we can hardly keep track. Dinners, parties, office events, community celebrations, school festivities - all of these require decor, and lucky for us, that's often in the form of flowers. Holiday flowers are a big deal, not just for us, but for millions of people who will be using them on their tables this season or offering them as gifts. But the biggest big deal of all is the Thanksgiving centerpiece. If ever there was a time to make a statement with flowers, it's now. Read More about Statement Centerpieces for Thanksgiving »

Sweetest Day Gifts & Flowers

Almost exactly 100 years ago, a group of candy executives in Cleveland had a sweet idea - to hand out boxes of candy to orphans, shut-ins, and the elderly. Dubbed "Sweetest Day", the inaugural event saw 26,000 boxes of candy distributed. However, the idea was met with some cynicism, as many thought that perhaps the executives were attempting to start a tradition that would benefit their pocketbooks more than the people receiving the sweet treats. Still, Sweetest Day persisted, especially in the Northeast and Midwest, and is still a tradition in much of our country. And although some still choose to give candy, Sweetest Day has grown to include any act of kindness benefiting someone who may be down on their luck. On October 21, people across Anchorage will be making their friends and family smile - and Bagoy's Florist & Home will be helping with beautiful floral designs and bouquets.  Read More about Sweetest Day Gifts & Flowers »

Grandparents Day Flowers & Gifts

Our grandchildren accept us for ourselves, without rebuke or effort to change us, as no one in our entire lives has ever done, not our parents, siblings, spouses, friends — and hardly ever our own grown children. ~Ruth Goode The bonds which are created when a new baby is born extend beyond parent and child. In fact, any grandparent will tell you that the relationships with their grandchildren are among the strongest they have ever experienced. But once parents become grandparents, studies also indicate that the relationship with their grown children improves as well - indicating that building a strong inter-generational connection is one of the best things you can do for your family. National Grandparents Day is a time set aside to recognize how important the older generations are to our legacy, and Grandparents Day flowers are a great way to celebrate. .  Read More about Grandparents Day Flowers & Gifts »
