Since 1935, the United States has recognized National Friendship Day on the first Sunday of August, and throughout the years many nations have joined in the celebration. It is also quite fitting that National Sisters Day is observed on the same day – after all, our sisters are often our very first friends and one of our closest lifelong allies. All year long, Bagoy’s Florist & Home helps our friends and neighbors in Anchorage to honor the most important people in our lives, and August 6th gives us the opportunity to do so in a very special way.
Benefits of Sisterhood: Studies reveal that people who grow up with sisters close in age are generally much happier adults. They also have a more optimistic view on life, and are often more generous and charitable – perhaps because of all the sharing they had to do over the years!
Beautiful Brita, shown above, is named after one of owner Chanda Mines’ daughters, shown below with her sister.
Having close friendships throughout our lives is also exceptionally beneficial to our social development. Experts say that when toddlers and elementary age children have close friends (or close-in-age siblings) that through interaction, they are learning how to navigate important social constructs. As teenagers and adults, our friends help us to learn about establishing priorities. In other words, friends and siblings are very important, which of course we always knew. Whether your sister is your best friend – or your best friend is like a sister – show her how important she is this month!
Did You Know? Yellow roses are the traditional flower of friendship. So whether you send a bouquet of these cheerful flowers, or add them onto a mixed bouquet they are the perfect bloom to show your appreciation for her years by your side.
