You probably know that the Declaration of Independence was signed in July of 1776. But did you know that there were no celebrations that year? The first official 4^th of July celebration took place a year later, on July 4^th, 1777. The holiday wasn’t called Independence Day until 1791, and the first official July 4^th White House celebration didn’t take place until 1801, when Thomas Jefferson hosted a holiday party.
