It’s nearly the 4th of July, and Anchorage is preparing to paint the town red, white and blue! Whether you are having the barbecue at your house or headed to visit with friends and family, July Fourth florals from Bagoy’s Florist & Home are a great way to bring the party!
Did You Know? On the back of the actual Declaration of Independence – written upside down and backward – are the following words: “Original Declaration of Independence dated 4th July 1776.” The person who wrote the words is not known. As parchment would have been rolled up, it is believed that the words were meant to distinguish the message inside from among other deliveries.
Creating July Fourth florals is as easy as choosing from our national colors. Red roses, carnations or gerbera daisies are popular choices, as are white lilies, hydrangea, carnations, and roses. Blue delphinium and blue iris are perfect to add the cooler hue – which can also be represented with a blue vase, or patriotic ribbons.
Fourth of July in Anchorage: Delaney Park Strip is host to the annual Anchorage July 4th Celebration. We like to start our celebrations early here on the last frontier, so get up early and kick off a day of festivity at the annual pancake breakfast, taking place at 8 a.m. The Anchorage 4th of July Parade begins at 11 a.m., with our family festival following, running from noon to 6 p.m. You’ll enjoy music, games, vendors, and food – and don’t miss the University of Washington Marching Band, performing at 12:30 p.m. If you are a bit of a history buff, be sure to attend the Harvard Club reading of the Declaration of Independence at 1 p.m., complete with period costumes from the Revolution.
