Our Favorite Ways to Celebrate America

On the Fourth of July, we wave the American flag to commemorate our nation’s Independence and freedom that was achieved in 1776. In addition to traditional backyard cookouts with neighbors and loved ones, celebrating Independence Day is done in a myriad of ways that allow us to show our patriotism. Here at Bagoy’s Florist, the top flower shop in Anchorage, we are talking about some of our favorite ways to celebrate America and honor those who have made our country one of the best.

7 Ways to Show Your Patriotism

It’s appropriate to celebrate America’s birthday as you would any other birthday or important holiday. Hosting a party or small cookout in the backyard is a great way to gather friends, family, and neighbors to commemorate the importance of the day and your freedom. Decorate your space with red, white, and blue flowers, streamers, tablecloths, garland, and centerpieces to represent the colors on the American flag.

Attend a Patriotic Parade

Grab a lawn chair or blanket and head to the center of town for a good old-fashioned Independence Day parade. With marching bands, singers, floats, classic cars, and even bicycles adorned in red, white, and blue streamers, parades are a lively and magnificent way to honor our soilers and veterans.

Support a Veteran

Neighbors, relatives, and your local VA would be thrilled and deeply touched by your gratitude if you were to spend time or send a heartwarming “thank you” note their way. The Fourth of July and other patriotic holidays commemorate the courage, bravery, and sacrifices of our veterans, and they deserve to be honored. Celebrate with them by offering your time, listening to their stories, and gifting them a fresh bouquet of flowers to brighten their day.

Fly the Stars and Stripes

Flying and waving the American flag will always be in style, especially during patriotic holidays, including Independence Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day. Keep an eye on your flag to ensure it is not damaged or torn in any way. If so, respectfully retire your colors as this is a symbolic way of honoring the stars and stripes representing our country.

Visit a National Park or Historic Landmark

Some of America’s most breathtaking views are found in national parks, historic monuments, and famous landmarks. Hop in the car for a Fourth of July road trip and marvel in person over one of these stunning and eye-opening locations. They will certainly fill you with pride and expand your knowledge of our nation’s history.

Shop Local & Buy American

Buying American-made products and shopping from small businesses in your community is a glorious, patriotic thing to do. Fueling your local economy is a terrific way to positively impact the nation’s economy. So, for America’s birthday this year, shop small and buy local!

Display Patriotic Blooms

From your garden and flower beds to the porch or inside the house, red, white, and blue blooms are our all-time favorite way to observe any holiday or special occasion. This Independence day, bring an arrangement to a BBQ, send a bouquet to a loved one or a veteran, or place a few stems on a soldier’s grave in honor of their bravery and sacrifices. With endless flowers to choose from, consider these symbolic options:

  • Rose – America’s national flower
  • Freesias – these flowy and beautiful blooms symbolize freedom
  • Edelweiss – charming white flowers shaped like stars that signify strength and courage
  • Guernsey Lilies – unique flowers that resemble fireworks and represent freedom and good fortune
  • Black-Eyed Susans – these bright yellow star-burst-like blooms with a striking dark round center symbolize justice.

Displaying delightful red, white, and blue blooms is a fun and fresh way to celebrate America’s history, not just on patriotic holidays, but every day! For uplifting, symbolic, and festive flowers, browse our unique collection here at Bagoy’s Florist.
